We need your help to raise £60,000 for one of our most important projects at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary, to ensure water security for our rescued animals for years to come.
Our South African location provides a paradise for animals rescued from suffering, but it means that effective water supply and waste disposal are critical and could determine how many animals we can rescue in future.
Our Sanctuary benefits from natural spring-fed boreholes for the animals and people to drink, and we plan to conserve supplies with state-of-the-art 'grey' water recycling, alongside a modern sewage and septic tank system for clean waste disposal. Here’s what we want to do:
• Waste from toilets (black water) will be processed through five new septic tanks.
• Separate processing and ‘fat traps’ for the animals’ food preparation areas.
• 'Grey' water from washing, showers, sinks, etc., will be filtered in four water recycling stations, and this recycled, clean water will be used to flush toilets, water trees, clean vehicles, fight fires, etc.
• Both systems will cover visitor/volunteer, offices and education centre facilities for schools.
UPDATE: Huge thanks to every who donated to our Giving Tuesday appeal. Including the wonderful $50,000 (£40,000) match fund from Big Cat Rescue we have raised $103,583 (£82,795) towards our total of $125,600 (£100,390). We still need to raise $21,764 (£17,395). The Rick and Michele Palmer Animal Relief Fund has now offered an additional matching grant $1,250 (£1,000) – so all donations received before December 31, 2024, can now be matched to this.
