The federal government of Canada is advancing a proposal to designate a proposed oil pipeline known as the West Coast Oil Pipeline as a project of ‘national interest’, allowing for quick approvals and avoidance of laws in place to protect Canada’s incredible wildlife.
The pipeline would involve 1,200km of pipeline from the Alberta area down to British Columbia and ending in a deepwater marine port, carrying millions of barrels of crude oil. This would be devastating news from a construction and pollution perspective for Canada’s wildlife including species such as killer whales, dolphins, bear species and more. This does not factor in the risk of oil spills.
The government have opened a public consultation process for this national interest designation with a deadline of September 18th.
Have your say and please help stop the West Coast Oil Pipeline.
